Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions that caregivers have regarding our care home. Do give us a call if your question is not listed here and we'll do our best to assist you.

Tampines Care Home is a stay-in nursing home facility that caters primarily to patients who require long-term skilled nursing care and/or assistance in activities of daily living and are unable to be cared for at home.  To be eligible for admission to a nursing home, the patient must meet the following criteria, as listed by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC):

  • Have physical or mental disabilities because of medical conditions like stroke, dementia and other chronic illnesses
  • Be semi-mobile, wheelchair- or bed-bound, requiring daily nursing care and help in daily living activities such as using the toilet and walking
  • Have tried all possible care arrangements such as hiring a domestic helper, day care, and home care
  • Be unable to get care at home from other family members or community providers

All admissions into Tampines Care Home are by referral via the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). Patients (or their family members) should speak to their last attending doctor or medical social worker at the public hospital or polyclinic, who will assist them to submit their admission application to AIC.

A means-test is used to determine the amount of subsidies a person needing care is eligible for. Those from households with lower income will be granted higher subsidies under the means-testing framework. Patients can take a means-test at public hospitals, polyclinics conducted by Medical Social Workers or any of the AICare Link offices. The waiting time for admission to Tampines Care Home varies according to the following:

  • Availability of beds
  • Patient’s needs
  • Co-operation from the family in meeting the necessary requirements, such as responding to interview appointment and preparing documents for verification.

At Tampines Care Home, we understand that affordability is a key concern for our residents and their family members. Eligible residents can receive government subsidies to help defray the cost of care, and financial assistance is available for needy residents. Vanguard’s Medical Social Workers will conduct financial counseling to advise the cost of staying at our Care Homes before admission.

Bills are issue on a monthly basis. Payment can be made at the Reception Counter located at level 2, Tampines Care Home. We accept several modes of payment such as bank transfer, cash, cheque, GIRO or NETS.

Besides nursing care, we also provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, medical care, dental care and dietary services. These care plans and programmes are specially designed to meet the needs of our residents so that they can recover and be well enough to be discharged or taken care of at home. The Senior Care Centre, which opens in first quarter of 2019, also offers a range of health and social care services, including day care, dementia day care and rehabilitation services, so that seniors requiring care can be supported in the community.
